Porsche had announced in February for the development of three prototypes which would be based on the Boxster roadster, but would be pure electric cars. However, the only details that the automobile manufacturer based in Stuttgart has published to date on the cars are that the engine would be capable of producing a 180 kw or 241 hp. They have also released just a photo of the prototype so far.

At Michelin Challenge Bibendum in Berlin event held last week, the automobile manufacturer had posted the Boxster E model. The company has also used on occasion to come with more details on the test cars which are part of the Government supported by the "Stuttgart region Electro-mobility model" programme which was designed to study the feasibility of all electric vehicles for everyday use. The Boxster E prototypes that are part of the test range includes two rear traction and a whole wheel vehicle.

Power for the four wheel drive model is derived from two independent electric motors acting on front axles and rear. The combined output of the car power is 180 kw or 241 hp with a maximum torque of 540 Nm rating or 398 lb - ft, which is available at approximately 12 000 rpm.

In the case of vehicle rear wheel, the motor system and transmission as well as power electronics is accommodated where the manual transmission and exhaust system are located in the conventional Boxster. In addition, space is freed by the removal of the 64 litres fuel tank is where the front electric motor is mounted in test models. The two engines are synchronized with the help of an electronic unit that also controls the distribution of torque to the front and the rear axle.

Officially declared the E acceleration figures Boxster AWD is 5.5 seconds for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h or 62 mph with top being limited to 200 km/h or 124 mph speeds.

In the case of two models of propulsion, the electric motor in the front is ignored and there was that the rear unit which provides 90 kW / 121HP and 270 Nm / 199 lb - ft of torque. The acceleration of the RWD Boxster E factor is 9.8 seconds for the 100 km/h or dash 62 mph with speeds the car is able to be 150 km/h or mph 93.

For the source of energy the Boxster E prototypes are equipped with 29 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate based battery that occupy the space released by the combustion engine. The range of drive which allows the battery to power is 107 kilometre or 107 miles. The weight of the battery is approximately 341 kg or 752 books with total weight of the Boxster E 1 600 kg or books 3527. A conventional socket is good enough to charge the battery which lasts about 9 hours to acquire the full charge. Battery recharge time can may reduced with quick loading function.

There is no shortage of space as electronic components which are abundant in the car. Space remains baggage for use in front storage compartment while the rear baggage compartment remains similar to that of a conventional Boxster.

The rear and four wheel drive Boxster Es are also equipped with a system asset sound design that gives a sound feedback to the driver as well as to alert pedestrians and other users of the road for the presence of cars.
