Setting a new record for an Asian market, Bentley Motors has sold a huge 396 cars in the first four months of 2011 in China - not including Hong Kong and Macau. In doing so, Bentley beat his own previous record by an incredible increase of 66 per cent of sales.

Last year in 2010 Bentley had sold less than 1,000 cars in China - a figure which is itself a double the sales of the company for the previous year in 2009. Sales figures for 2010 has opened the way for China to become the third largest market of Bentley. However, with a performance even better in 2011, China beat United Kingdom to become the second best market after the USA for the first time in the history of Bentley. In fact, at the speed at which Bentley cars are sold in China, one in four Bentley which is sold around the world is sold in this country.

However there is much scope for Bentley improve sales, as the majority of sales was conducted before the new Continental GT and Mulsanne arrived in China. Among the 50 cars on the total of 396 cars have been sold, 25 were Continental GT models.

Alasdair Stewart, Member of the Board of Bentley for sales and marketing, said: "our Chinese customers, like the rest of the world, valued history of Bentley and our emphasis on the most beautiful luxury, craftsmanship and automotive excellence." Although China is traditionally a market for the four-door cars such as the Mulsanne and the Continental Flying Spur, there is growing interest for the excitement, Adrenaline and sheer pleasure of driving the high-performance sports car. »

Bentley, to recognize the importance of China, plans to host its world wide dealer Conference in Beijing. This is the first Bentley hosted an event of such importance in a country in Asia.
