2011 Hyundai Elantra GLS: commitment or candidate?

In the interest of full disclosure, I acknowledge that I am not a typical automotive journalist.  I did not test new vehicles of fleet of press, not evaluate a new home each week and most of my knowledge comes from my own extensive research and a bit of experience in the real world.  Call me a journo Chair, as I imagine that many fans that.  Often I can not see the shiny new toys close and personal, not mention they have in my hands.  Being naturally skeptical, I often wonder how close my reality are many tests of car.
You can see, at the end of the day that I am a MOM of work that happens to the love of cars, with practical to consider for my next vehicle issues.  I am not yet at the point where I can choose what they want, but that should rather choose what best fits the demands of life at this time.  Budget, space and maintenance all costs must take precedence over the "fun to drive" factor despite would rather be the other way around.  And so, I have often felt that I'll have to compromise my next set of wheels.
A few weeks ago, my family and I returned to brilliant new (like my husband, 800 miles on the new odo) Mazdaspeed3 in a parking garage to find that some jackwagon had scratched the back bumper, when it changed (we assume).  The Mazda entered the store and was given an Elantra GLS as a rent of 2011.  I've been itching try one from seeing all the positive buzz and have been waffling back and forth to the e on my shopping list.  One hundred and forty-eight safe horses look puny next to the Speed3's nine hundred and sixty-three.  Unfortunately, the Speed3 does not meet the requirement of "space" than the previous one, so it is not a contender for me but for diversion.
From my trip, a Mazda6, the Elantra seems small and low to the ground.  The painting is beautiful, or it would have been if the Agency had slapped a decent coat of wax on the thing (this was Black Ghost, but I've also seen the Indigo Blue Pearl in person and to his exceptional).  Obtain, I noticed the seats were well reinforced and support and everything seemed to fit to my around just.  I had a strange smell "fossilized French fry" but I will chalk up funk car rental.  This was the base model with automatic transmission and there is no other packages but still well equipped.   I finished him driving his tenure of three days with us.  I had pretty low expectations - after all, this has less power than my base ' 03 model 6 and is designed to reach up to 40 mpg on the highway.
Consider my expectations obsolete, at least.  I often wonder if some automotive writers have become jaded over the years, after having driven by so many wonderful machines.  What, I wonder what someone in the "real world" think of it.  What is in their daily conduct, not on a closed track?  The first thing I noticed was the brakes were quite delicate and it didn't take much gas for the car to move.  I traffic waiting of the floor and it was pleasantly greeted with a burst of speed.  The next thing was to be considered in the road where not had any problem in combination with these countries 80 mph, and the e downshifted happy when I needed to spend some crawlers.
At this point, it was the deporte-cambio but has set back from 6 - up to upshift, to downshift.  Seems logical, but nothing of what was used for.  Another thing that is not used to was two marches rather than normally.  Slushbox or not, six-speed, no doubt helped to make it more fun.  He took the curved ramp caution not to know how they would respond to the tires, but they held their own.  Not on smooth Rails as the Speed3 but definitely minimal body roll and never felt out of control (the ESC may have been help here…my 6 doesn't and I am not accustomed to cars that do).
Inside, the stereo base provides a lot of enjoyment to my journey and I am curious to see how sounds the 360 Watts in the limited.  My inner geek was delighted with the option to connect a USB device to the music.  Plastics were to my liking and even pushed my finger in the script: soft, something that would have never even thought to do a few years before each output related to the car started to insist on.  The backseat was wide and accommodating the needs of my family and the trunk, cavernous.  Filled me with how easily find Hyundai become parking spaces, although the light of their own direction at low speeds led to some (as the wheel in an arcade game).  That being said, what weight well in speed.  I am quite sure that the rental was out of the lineup for my evaluation of the suspension is not entirely fair, but easily absorb bumps in my daily travels.  I am used to more stringent configurations, and it's about railways in the Elantra really felt better than the 6.
It doesn't note more sweet sound of exhaust and the Horn creates a friendly "Mir!" when click, but in the grand scheme of things the considerations of anyway I think is important.  HIDs are the only option that is missing from my wish list.  If buy it, it would probably be limited with nav (in red Allure, please).  I understand that it is not a comparison of apples to apples, but me has come to the Elantra and Si civic 2012.  Still think test if an a day, of course, but I've been most impressed with the e.  I guess it has to be a good car when you are sad to become a rent of base model which smells of old cooking oil, right?  If you are looking for power and RWD then obviously this is not for you.  But if you need to replace your old Civic or Corolla (or even "reduce" from a more big car if you don't have the space), want something decent gas mileage and see your car as something more than a device, I definitely recommend the new Elantra.   Now, if only it could launch an a R-Spec turbo, distinctive and sell it here would be established for the next ten years.
